Favorite Coline Mattel won the women’s individual competition at the Junior World Championships. The French, who won two Continental Cup competitions in Braunlage recently and was among the best four in all events this winter, won with 257.5 points and is the new Junior World Champion. Mattel is only 15 years old.
“I’m very happy because I jumped well. I was very nervous, because many expected me to win because of the success in the last years. It was a nice competition because so many were fighting for the victory”, analyzed the French who won Silver at last year’s Championships.
Rogelj: Looking forward to WSC
Only 3.5 points behind Mattel, Slovene Spela Rogelj won the silver medal. The 16-year-old was followed by Japanese Yuki Ito. Ito captured the third place (252.0 points) with the longest jump of the day on 99 m in the final round.
“I’m very happy with this result. Two years ago I was disqualified. Now I’m looking forward to the World Championships in Oslo”, said Rogelj. And Ito was happy about the “big surprise” of her winning the bronze medal.
No medals for Germany and Austria
So Germany and Austria could not win a medal at the competitions in Otepaeae (EST). Jacqueline Seifriedsberger finished fourth and missed the podium by about five points.
It was a disappointing day for the German team. Their best was Carina Vogt as eighth, behind Evelyn Insam from Italy (5th), Japanese Sara Takanashi (6th) and Eva Logar from Slovenia (7th). |
